Here are ten watershed moment in the history that shaped today's India.Their political or social importance the magnitude of effects of these events also has been great.
Partition: British left India divided into two separate states, india and Pakistan i followed massive killings and bloodshed, and left an everlasting impact on psyche of the two nations forever.
Raja Hari Singh signed an agreement of accession making muslim majority kashmir an integral part of India w special status for the state of Kashmir under Article 370. The decision has led to settled issue with four wars between India and Pakistan.
Political Integration: Over 500 princely states were amalgamated to form a sine nation, eliminating the chances of fissiparous tendencies and rebellions.
Five Year plans: Five year planning was introduced in India in the year 1951 The main aim behind implementing five year plans was to draw out a blueprint for India's future course of action in the field of political economy, In 2015 it was replaced with Niti Aayog to sync with current realities
Reorganisation of States: The states were reorganized on the basis of linguistic Identities in various parts of the country Andhra Pradesh was born in 1956, Gujarat in 1960 and Haryana and Himachal Pradesh in 1966
Indo-China War: The Indo-China war of 1962 turned Nehru's "Hindi-Chini Bhai-Bhai"
into a big fallacy It was a big blow to his foreign policy and shattered his domestic and global image 55 years later, Indo-China border dispute is still a burning cancer for both sides
1971 India-Pakistan war and Creation of Bangladesh: India intervened in the uprising in East Pakistan as it was creating influx of refugees Defeat of Pakistan and creation of Bangladesh re-established the supremacy of India in south Asia.
Emergency: The national emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government in 1975 is seen as a black spot on the Indian democracy. The entire opposition was jailed. Fundamental Rights were curbed, the freedom of press was scrapped and institutions were gagged Economic Reforms: Amidst the rising debts and falling economy, the economic reforms of 1991-92 changed the course of indian economy forever. With the end of License-Quota- Permit Raj, the economy was opened and it was hailed as economic independence for India.
Goods and Services Tax (GST): Introduction of Goods and Services Tax on July 01, 2017 enabled India to move towards "One nation, one tax regime From Kashmir to Kanyakumari ensure the same tax structure and seamless movement of goods and services. Though India achieved its political integration gradually in the year after independence with GST the process of economic integration of the country has started.
